The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross (Posthumously) to Lieutenant, Junior Grade John William Dresbach, United States Naval Reserve, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as Commander and Pilot of a plane in a coordinated attack on an enemy submarine in the Caribbean during World War II. Lieutenant, Junior Grade, Dresbach released his depth charges and closed range on the target although mortally wounded by enemy fire. His cool courage and superb airmanship contributed materially to eventual destruction of the submarine.
