The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant, Junior Grade Oren R. Christian, United States Naval Reserve, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight during a coordinated attack on an enemy submarine in the Caribbean during World War II. Lieutenant, Junior Grade, Christian assumed command after the pilot had been mortally wounded and pressed home a relentless bombing attack despite intense anti-aircraft and damage to his instrument panel.
