The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Captain Paul L. Mather, United States Navy, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States in Command of the Headquarters Ship of a major task force during the assault on Sicily in 1943. Captain Mather directed the facilities of his vessel with notable skill and enabled all commanders and staffs embarked to accomplish their missions with utmost efficiency.
