The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant, Junior Grade George F. Scott, Jr. (NSN: 0-125768), United States Naval Reserve, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight while piloting a Torpedo Bomber in a strike at Japanese warships in Rabaul Harbor on 5 November 1943. Lieutenant, Junior Grade, Scott hurtled his plane directly at a warship getting under way in the center of Simpson Harbor. He contributed materially to the destruction of the ten planes shot down by his squadron and to the severe damage inflicted on Japanese warships.
