Kostyal (NSN: 0-325842), United States Naval Reserve, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross (Posthumously) for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as Pilot of a Fighter Plane embarked in the U.S.S. FANSHAW BAY over the Philippine Islands on 25 October 1944.
