Kohut (NSN: 6078259), United States Naval Reserve, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross (Posthumously) for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as Radioman and Tail Gunner of a Torpedo Bomber embarked in U.S.S. ESSEX during the Battle for Leyte Gulf in October 1944.
