The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross (Posthumously) to Lieutenant, Junior Grade Harmon Russell Hudson (NSN: 0-278564), United States Navy, for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as Pilot of a Torpedo Bomber in Air Group THIRTEEN, embarked in U.S.S. FRANKLIN against enemy Japanese forces off Formosa Island in the Western Pacific Area, 12 October 1944. Boldly countering strong fighter opposition, Lieutenant, Junior Grade, Hudson plunged through withering and accurate anti-aircraft fire from shore batteries to a perilously low altitude and, fighting his plane relentlessly, scored several direct and destructive bomb hits on a heavily defended industrial alcohol plant on Formosa. By his superb airmanship and daring combat skill, Lieutenant, Junior Grade, Hudson contributed materially to the ultimate success of our aerial offensive in this strategically important theater of war and his tenacious devotion to duty throughout was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
