The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross (Posthumously) to Lieutenant Ancil C. Hudson (NSN: 0-85887), United States Naval Reserve, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as flight leader of a carrier-based fighter escort during a strike on an enemy convoy in the vicinity of the Bonin Islands on 4 August 1944. Lieutenant Hudson boldly led superbly coordinated strafing attacks. During a furious low-level attack which sank a hostile destroyer his plane was hit by a burst from an enemy shell and crashed into the sea.
