    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant John B. Furstenberg (NSN: 0-104097), United States Naval Reserve, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a fighter pilot during attacks on Japanese forces at Wake and Mille Atoll on 5 October 1943 and 19 November 1943. On those dates Lieutenant Furstenberg shot down two enemy fighter planes in flames. He led his team in repeated strafing runs, destroying hostile installations and thereby contributing to the effectiveness of the attack.
