Edwards, Jr. (NSN: 0-278689), United States Navy, was awarded a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross (Posthumously) for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as Patrol Plane Commander in Patrol Bombing Squadron TWENTY-SEVEN (VPB-27), in action in the Yellow Sea on 27 April 1945.
