(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Lieutenant Colonel (Infantry) Arthur Hamilton Fuller, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving as Commanding Officer of an Infantry Battalion of the 117th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces in France, on 7 July 1944. On that date, Lieutenant Colonel Fuller’s battalion had been pinned down by artillery and mortar barrages and automatic weapons fire. Armed with only a pistol, he encouraged his men to follow him in an assault against an enemy machine gun in a hedgerow. The group charged the emplacement, killing one German and capturing others. This valiant feat so inspired the other troops that the battalion annihilated the remaining enemy strong points, thus saving the day. Lieutenant Colonel Fuller’s leadership and valorous actions are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflects great credit upon himself, the 30th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
