    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant Thomas R. Clark, Jr. (NSN: 0-85570), United States Navy, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight during World War II. Sighting an enemy convoy while on patrol in the plane he commanded, Lieutenant Clark led his two-plane section in a daring attack. Flying directly between the protecting enemy destroyers, he completely destroyed the largest merchant ship.
