Chandler (NSN: 2730002), United States Navy, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as aircrewman of a scout bomber embarked in the U.S.S. FRANKLIN, in action over Bonin, Marianas, Caroline, Nansei, Formosa and Philippine Islands areas, from 4 July 1944 and culminating in the Battle for Leyte Gulf on 25 October 1944.
