Carter (NSN: 0-346718), United States Navy, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross (Posthumously) for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as Pilot of a Fighter Plane in Fighting Squadron EIGHTY-FOUR (VF-84), embarked in U.S.S. BUNKER HILL (CV-17), in the vicinity of Tokyo, from 1 March 1945 to 9 May 1945.
