The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Technical Sergeant Edward Kenneth Fox (ASN: 3324954), United States Army Air Forces, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving as Engineer of a B-17 Heavy Bomber of the 369th Bombardment Squadron, 306th Bombardment Group, EIGHTH Air Force, while participating in a bombing mission over Germany on 14 October 1943. When the aircraft in which he was serving as Engineer and Top Turret Gunner was heavily attacked by a large number of enemy aircraft, Sergeant Fox was painfully wounded by fragments of a cannon shell which exploded near his gun position. In spite of his severe pain and loss of blood, Sergeant Fox remained at his post of duty for the duration of the one and one-half hour running battle against enemy fighters, relinquishing his position only after all danger from enemy attack had ceased. The heroism and devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Fox on this occasion have upheld the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army Air Forces.
