(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Admiral Edwin John Roland, United States Coast Guard, was awarded the Legion of Merit for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States, culminating as Assistant Commandant of the Coast Guard from 12 February 1962 to 22 April 1962, and as Commandant of the Coast Guard from 23 April 1962 to 1966.     (Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Admiral Edwin John Roland, United States Coast Guard, was awarded the Coast Guard Distinguished Service Medal for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States in 1965 and 1966. Admiral Roland was responsible for the Coast Guard’s swift response to the Navy’s request for patrol craft to assist in coastal surveillance in South Vietnam. He also skillfully guided the handling of the Cuban Exodus operations in the Straits of Florida in 1965. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of Admiral Roland culminate a long and distinguished career in the service of his country and his dedicated contributions reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Coast Guard.
