(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Admiral Edwin John Roland, United States Coast Guard, was awarded the Coast Guard Distinguished Service Medal for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States in 1965 and 1966. Admiral Roland was responsible for the Coast Guard’s swift response to the Navy’s request for patrol craft to assist in coastal surveillance in South Vietnam. He also skillfully guided the handling of the Cuban Exodus operations in the Straits of Florida in 1965. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of Admiral Roland culminate a long and distinguished career in the service of his country and his dedicated contributions reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Coast Guard.
