The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant, Junior Grade Kenneth P. Hill, United States Navy, for gallantry in action during World War II as a member of a patrol landed on Japanese-held territory. Lieutenant, Junior Grade, Hill remained for three days for the purpose of securing vital information as to terrain, hydrographic conditions and strength and disposition of enemy forces. Knowing that he could expect no outside assistance and that discovery meant capture or death, he successfully carried out his hazardous assignment. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Naval Service.
