The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Commander John F. Grube, United States Navy, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States in July 1943. Commanding a naval vessel during the amphibious invasion of Sicily, Commander Grube disembarked troops and equipment and directed the operations of his combat-cargo-loaded ship with efficiency despite fierce hostile oppositions and relentless enemy attacks.
