The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy and Marine Corps Medal to Chief Yeoman Vernon A. Rhodes, United States Navy, for heroic conduct while serving aboard a United States Submarine during war patrols in enemy controlled waters during World War II. During seven strenuous war patrols in dangerous enemy waters, Chief Rhodes performed his duties as Chief Yeoman and Recorder of a fire control party with initiative and consummate skill.
