The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant Danforth Huntington, United States Navy, for gallantry in action as Gunnery Officer of a United States Destroyer in action against the Japanese during World War II. Lieutenant Huntington skillfully directed the fire of his ship with such persistent and determined effect, despite heavy enemy opposition, that he contributed materially to the success of his ship’s operation. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Naval Service.
