    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy and Marine Corps Medal to Chief Motor Machinist’s Mate Grover V. Irwin, United States Navy, for heroic conduct while serving aboard a United States Submarine during strenuous war patrols in enemy controlled waters during World War II. Chief Motor Machinist’s Mate Irwin rendered great assistance to his Commanding Officer and displayed great courage and expert seamanship during submarine patrols in the Pacific. His technical skill and courage contributed to the destroying and damaging of many tons of enemy shipping and war vessels.
