The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy and Marine Corps Medal to Ship’s Cook Second Class William A. Polaski, United States Navy, for heroic conduct during World War II. Although fully aware of the great personal risk involved, Ship’s Cook Second Class Polaski and two comrades defied treacherous currents to rescue a drowning man near Midway Island.
