The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy and Marine Corps Medal to Lieutenant Verner Utke-Ramsing, Jr., United States Navy, for heroic conduct while serving aboard a United States Submarine during war patrols in enemy controlled waters during World War II. As Commissary, Engineering and Diving Officer in a submarine during five patrols, Lieutenant Utke-Ramsing assisted materially in the destruction of 59,417 tons of enemy shipping, and the damaging of 26,300 tons.
