    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant, Junior Grade Edwin M. Wilson, United States Navy, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a dive-bomber pilot in the Solomon Islands during World War II. Lieutenant, Junior Grade Wilson scored a direct hit on a Japanese destroyer in Blackett Strait off Kolombangara Island in 8 May 1943. On 17 July he participated in a daring attack on enemy vessels near Kahili and assisted in sinking four destroyers and in seriously damaging a light cruiser.

Wilson, United States Navy, was awarded a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a Pilot in Bombing Squadron ELEVEN (VB-11), embarked in U.S.S. HORNET (CV-12), over the waters of Formosa on 21 January 1945.
