The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Boatswain’s Mate First Class Edward A. Salatka, United States Navy, for gallantry in action during the occupation of Attu, Territory of Alaska, during World War II. As a member of a beach party from a United States warship, Boatswain’s Mate First Class Salatka handled, salvaged, and unloaded boats on the beach for four days under heavy, intermittent artillery fire. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Naval Service.
