The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy and Marine Corps Medal to Machinist Anthony S. Creider, United States Navy, for heroic conduct during World War II. Undeterred by the danger of bursting ammunition from a crashed plane, and the possibility of explosion of fuel and depth charges aboard, Machinist Creider entered the blazing plane, made his way through heavy smoke to the pilot’s compartment, and turned off the ignition switches.
