    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy and Marine Corps Medal to Lieutenant Commander (CEC) Guy B. Cornell, United States Navy, for heroic conduct during World War II while in charge of a construction party. Lieutenant Commander Cornell supervised the building of an emergency airplane landing strip in the Aleutians, Territory of Alaska, and, despite the threat of attack and adverse weather conditions, supervised the unloading of personnel and heavy equipment.
