(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Rear Admiral Oswald S. Colclough, United States Navy, was awarded a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Award of the Legion of Merit for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Commanding Officer of the U.S.S. NORTH CAROLINA, in Japanese waters, from 26 January 1945 to 30 April 1945.

The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Captain Oswald S. Colclough, United States Navy, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States during World War II as Commander of submarines operating in the North Pacific, and later as Chief of Staff to the Commander, North Pacific Force. Captain Colclough led forces which inflicted serious damage on the enemy. He helped plan and execute the occupation of the Western Aleutians.
