(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Vice Admiral [then Rear Admiral] Olaf M. Hustvedt, United States Navy, was awarded a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Award of the Legion of Merit for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States in the Truck Islands area on 16 – 17 February 1944, and at Saipan, Tinian and Guam 21 – 22 February 1944.

The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Rear Admiral Olaf M. Hustvedt, United States Navy, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States from 25 October 1941 to 4 May 1943, as Chief of Staff to the Commander-in-Chief, United States Atlantic Fleet. Rear Admiral Hustvedt assisted in organizing the fleet and its bases, and in establishing sound command relationship in the early months of the war.
