Bureau of Naval Personnel Information Bulletin No. 321 (December 1943)

The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Seaman First Class Stanley Dean Krieg (NSN: 6542294), United States Navy, for gallantry in action during World War II. As light captain of a searchlight aboard a cruiser, in action off Guadalcanal on 13 November 1942, Seaman First Class Krieg was wounded by shrapnel at the opening of the action. However, he maintained his light in readiness despite his injuries and assisted in caring for the more seriously wounded. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Naval Service.
