The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Gunner’s Mate Third Class Albert G. Millican, United States Navy, for gallantry in action while serving on board a United States Navy Cruiser during action against enemy Japanese forces off Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands, on 12 November 1942. Manning his 20-mm machine gun with skill and determination, Gunner’s Mate Third Class Millican rendered valiant service despite serious burns on his face, courageously remaining at his station throughout the engagement. His exemplary performance of duty and his utter disregard for his own personal safety were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
