The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Boatswain’s Mate First Class Clyde W. Poppa, United States Navy, for gallantry in action during the assault on and occupation of French Morocco, 8 – 11 November 1942. As Gun captain of a three-inch gun in the U.S.S. DALLAS (DD-199), Boatswain’s Mate First Class Poppa displayed great bravery in the support of Army raider troops. Efficiency of the ship’s battery played a large part in the capture of the Port Lyautey airfield. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Naval Service.
