    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Chief Torpedoman’s Mate David W. Remley, United States Navy, for gallantry in action while serving aboard a United States Submarine during war patrols in enemy-controlled waters during World War II. As leader of the Torpedo Crew aboard his submarine, through his efficiency and maintenance of armament, Chief Torpedoman’s Mate Remley assisted in the sinking or damaging of a large amount of enemy shipping. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Naval Service.

    (Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Chief Torpedoman’s Mate David W. Remley, United States Navy, was awarded a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star for gallantry in action while serving as Chief of the Boat of the U.S.S. TIRANTE (SS-42), during the FIRST War Patrol of that Submarine in the East China and Yellow Seas from 3 March 1945 to 25 April 1945. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Naval Service.
