The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Chief Torpedoman’s Mate Earl E. Nave, United States Navy, for gallantry in action while serving aboard a United States Submarine during war patrols in enemy-controlled waters during World War II. While serving as Chief of the Boat, Chief Torpedoman’s Mate Nave performed his duties in an outstanding manner during three aggressive and successful war patrols in enemy waters. By competent leadership and thorough knowledge of his ship he rendered invaluable assistance to his commanding officer. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Naval Service.
