(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Chief Radioman Ralph N. Shaver, United States Navy, was awarded a Third Gold Star in lieu of a Fourth Award of the Silver Star for gallantry in action while serving aboard a United States Submarine during war patrols in enemy-controlled waters during World War II. Chief Shaver’s contributed materially to the sinking of more than 30,000 tons of enemy shipping. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Naval Service.
