Bureau of Naval Personnel Information Bulletin No. 321 (December 1943)

The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Chief Engineman Oliver J. Cameron, United States Navy, for gallantry in action while serving aboard a United States Submarine during war patrols in enemy-controlled waters during World War II. While in charge of the main electric power plant and electrical equipment of a submarine in Japanese waters, Chief Engineman Cameron kept his equipment in a constant state of readiness, and thereby contributed to the success of his ship in three war patrols. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Naval Service.
