The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy and Marine Corps Medal to Pharmacist’s Mate Third Class Wallace B. Hamilton, United States Navy, for heroic conduct while serving as a Medical Corpsman during World War II. Although wounded himself while administering aid to front-line casualties on Guadalcanal, 13 January 1943, Pharmacist’s Mate Third Class Hamilton remained on duty to assist in caring for the wounded despite the fact that he was limited to the use of only one arm.
