The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy and Marine Corps Medal to Fireman Second Class Edwin M. Jacobs, United States Navy, for heroic conduct during the assault on and occupation of French Morocco, 8 to 11 November 1942. When the warship to which he was attached was damaged by a shell during the assault on French Morocco, Fireman Second Class Jacobs voluntarily entered the engine room, then an inferno of smoke, steam, and intense heat, in a valiant attempt to rescue a helplessly wounded shipmate trapped inside.
