The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant, Junior Grade Alfred Wright, Jr., United States Navy, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight in the Solomon Islands area, 24 September 1942 to 14 October 1942. Although attacked by two Japanese planes while engaging a destroyer, Lieutenant, Junior Grade, Wright fought his scout bomber through heavy anti-aircraft fire to damage the enemy seriously by a near miss. He also participated in attacks on a total of 25 vessels.
