The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross (Posthumously) to Lieutenant, Junior Grade Charles A. Tabberer (NSN: 0-83883), United States Navy, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight in the Solomon Islands area on 7 August 1942. Leading a two-lane section of his squadron against an enemy force of 27 twin-engine bombers, Lieutenant Tabberer, despite opposition by opposing Zeroes, gallantry pressed home his attacks until his plane was shot down. By so doing he contributed to the destruction of at least five enemy bombers.
