The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Seaman First Class James Howard Danford, United States Navy, for gallantry in action in the Solomon Islands area on 30 November 1942. While serving aboard a United States Cruiser during an engagement with Japanese forces, Seaman First Class Danford, despite injuries, continued to perform the duties of his station. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Naval Service.
