The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Chief Torpedoman’s Mate Robert C. Daniel, United States Navy, for gallantry in action during war patrols in enemy controlled waters during World War II. As leading Petty Officer aboard a United States Submarine during four war patrols, Chief Torpedoman’s Mate Daniel contributed directly to the success of his ship in sinking one enemy cruiser and one destroyer and seriously damaging another cruiser with two torpedo hits. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Naval Service.
