The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Navy and Marine Corps Medal (Posthumously) to Seaman First Class Gregory A. Teixeira, United States Navy, for heroic conduct during World War II. While serving as the first loader for one of the guns of a 40-mm. quad mount, Seaman First Class Teixeira was about to load his gun when an explosion took place, knocking him off balance. Despite serious injuries, he kept the clip of ammunition from striking the gun or falling on the platform, knowing it might prove fatal to his comrades, then climbed off the mount and handed the projectiles to another crew member. Starting away, he staggered and collapsed, and, although given immediate treatment, died of his injuries.
