    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Aviation Radioman First Class Elmer Edwin Jackson, United States Navy, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight while serving as radioman and free machine gunner of an airplane of a bombing squadron in action against Japanese forces in the Battle of Midway on 6 June 1942. Aviation Radioman First Class Jackson participated in persistent bombing and strafing attacks against fleeing enemy forces in an airplane which obtained a bomb hit on an enemy vessel in the face of tremendous anti-aircraft fire.
