The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Ensign James C. Weimer, United States Navy, for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight for pressing home his attack in the face of heavy and accurate machine gun fire and, with the assistance of two other pilots, shooting down in flames a Japanese twin-engined bomber, while on patrol operations as a pilot of the U.S.S. HORNET (CV-8) Air Group during action in the Solomon Islands in 1942.
