The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Radioman Second Class Thomas Samuel MacMillan, United States Navy, for gallantry in action in performing his tasks in perfect coordination with his shipmates aboard a Motor Torpedo (PT) Boat, during an attack on an enemy warship and landing barge off Guadalcanal, which resulted in the destruction of the ship and the subsequent strafing of the landing barge. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Naval Service.
