The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Ensign Harry Elmo Kennedy (NSN: 0-335022), United States Naval Reserve, for gallantry in action in connection with operations against the enemy while serving aboard the U.S.S. LCT (G) 729, at Corregidor, Philippine Islands, on 16 February 1945. Ensign Kennedy courageously and capably reached his assigned destination despite heavy enemy rifle and machine gun fire, and underwater obstructions, and performed his duties, which materially aided in the success of the entire operation, until he was killed. His courageous and diligent performance of duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
