(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Coxswain Kenneth George Kendell, United States Coast Guard, was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Medal for heroic conduct while attached to the Coast Guard Operating Base, Everett, Washington, when dispatched for the base to assist another vessel in towing and empty Navy barge on Puget Sound on 22 November 1944. Diving fully clothed into the cold dark waters to rescue a seaman who had fallen over board, he swam to the spot where the man had disappeared and diving from the surface succeeded in grasping the seaman’s arm and supporting him until they could be brought on board where he administered artificial respiration until the man was fully recovered.
