(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Lieutenant, Junior Grade John M. Johnson, United States Coast Guard, was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Medal for heroism in rendering assistance to wounded personnel during landing operations at Parry Island, Eniwetok Atoll, Marshall Island. While a vessel was burning as the result of a direct hit and in probable danger of further explosions he went aboard the vessel and rendered assistance to wounded and others at a time when the ship’s personnel were unable to do so. His courageous action undoubtedly resulted in the prevention of loss of life of many of those injured.
